TESLA LEGACY

The goal of this initiative is to draw attention to the issue of functional inequality affecting previously produced vehicles.

Model S and X cars built on almost the same MCU and Autopilot Hardware as like 2017–2020 Model 3 vehicles, for unclear reasons, are missing many software features that Tesla has since rolled out through updates. Of course, these models represent less than 10% of the overall market, but these cars are not cheap — and they deserve the same level of attention.

Owners of these cars deserve access to the same features which are available to more budget models of the same years. This page was created to highlight these differences and to express a collective request to Tesla to reconsider the artificial limitations placed on legacy Model S and Model X vehicles.

MCU: Intel-Atom
This table refers to newer versions of these vehicles, but S/X vehicles built on the Tegra-based MCU can be retrofitted with the Intel Atom-based MCU.
Hardware / AP: 3.0
This table refers to newer versions of these vehicles, but owners have the option to upgrade their autopilot hardware from 2.0 to 3.0.

Elon Musk confirmed on X that this feature can be implemented on legacy cars.
Blind Spot Camera

Actually Smart Summon (ASS)
Tesla’s Head of Autopilot and AI, Ashok Elluswamy, has confirmed on X that legacy Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles will get Actually Smart Summon in Q4 2024.
Updated Energy App
Weather Info
Keep Accessory Power On
Car Wash Mode
Window Closing from App
Tesla removed some automatic window features to comply with NHTSA regulations. This recall affected all Tesla vehicles from 2017 to 2022, but the best they could come up with was simply to disable this feature. This does not apply to Model 3/Y. This is a completely strange limitation, considering that third-party apps like Tessie have this capability.
